Drip Irrigation Subsidy: How to Apply and Why Claims Get Rejected
Subsidy is settled on paper long before an inspector reaches the field. IS marking and a matching name on the 7/12 are what most claims turn on.
Why IS marking decides eligibility
Every micro-irrigation subsidy in India is tied to material that carries the IS mark. That is not a formality. The scheme pays for a specified standard of pipe, and a lateral that is not marked to that standard cannot be verified as being it.
Both of our flat inline laterals are made to IS 13488:2008 Class 2, and the plain lateral to IS 12786. The standard is moulded into the pipe rather than printed on a label, so it survives the season and it survives the inspection. If you are buying material to claim on, look for the mark before the invoice is written, not after.
What the file actually needs
The paperwork is ordinary: the 7/12 extract for the survey number being irrigated, Aadhaar, a bank passbook in the same name, and a quotation or invoice from a dealer registered for the scheme.
The step that catches people out is sequence. Take the quotation first and the approval second. Material bought before approval is the most common single reason a claim is refused, because the scheme reimburses against an approved estimate rather than against a receipt.
Where claims stall
Almost every rejection traces back to one of four things: the name on the 7/12 not matching the name on the bank account, a quotation from a dealer who is not registered for the scheme, material bought before approval, or an invoice that does not carry the IS mark.
Rates and per-hectare caps change by state, by farmer category and by year. Treat any figure you read anywhere, including on this page, as a starting point, and confirm the current one with your Krishi Vibhag or on the official scheme portal before you commit money.

View productCommon questions
- Can I claim subsidy on material I have already bought?
- That is the case that most often fails. Approval is normally given against an estimate before purchase, and the scheme reimburses against that approved estimate. If you have already bought, raise it with your Krishi Vibhag rather than assuming it will not be covered.
- Does the land have to be in my own name?
- The 7/12 extract and the bank account need to agree. Where land is held jointly or in a family member's name, that is a paperwork problem to settle before the application rather than after it.
- Is there a subsidy for repairing an existing system?
- Renovation of an existing system is treated separately from a new installation, and the rules differ by state. Ask specifically about renovation when you enquire, because it is not the same application form.
